The D-15M's dramatically dark and uniform look originates from its solid mahogany top with satin finish, mahogany back and sides, and mahogany neck. Though mahogany is often used to craft a guitar's back and sides, a mahogany top stands out among other tonewoods for its rich appearance.

Mahogany is not only noted for its appearance, however. The wood also gives the guitar a warm sound in the midrange and crisp highs. Those guitarists unsatisfied with sharper, brighter tonewoods may find the sound they are looking for in mahogany. If you like the mellow and earthy sound, there is plenty to hear -- as the guitar's sustain is only made stronger by the East Indian rosewood bridge.
